Strike: Students beg ASUU to call off 8month old Strike

Some university students on Thursday appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities to consider their future and resume to work in their various institutions. Some of the students, who spoke with the  News Agency of Nigeria  in Enugu, expressed worries and lamented as they appealed for the suspension of the prolonged strike. The students said they were tired and frustrated due to the time wasted without any academic achievement. They said the strike would make them remain in the university more than it was necessary. ASUU has been on strike since March 2020 over demands for more funding for public universities and renegotiation of the 2009 FG/ASUU agreement. Others are outstanding earned academic allowances, the proliferation of universities by state governments, and the constitution of Visitation Panels to Federal Universities. #EndSARS: CNN Retracts One of 101 Fake News Identified by PRNigeria

The Cable Network News simply known as CNN has retracted its initial report, which claimed that troops of the Nigerian Army killed 38 #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos State. Dubbed: “Lekki Massacre,” PRNigeria reports that the incident, which occurred on October 20, 2020, is fraught of a lot of misinformation, disinformation and fake news, to which a lot of reputable local and international media organisations were found culpable, including CNN itself and the British Broadcasting Corporation. After heated controversy and strategic interventions, CNN has officially backtracked its initial report via a tweet on its Twitter handle, which was titled: “Clarification.” In the Clarification, CNN said it did not attribute the death toll to Amnesty International and also failed to say in the report that the 38 persons killed were not just at the Lekki tollgate but across the country during the #EndSARS protest. ICPC arrests Nigerian professor for alleged N400 million fraud

The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC has arrested the acting Director-General (DG) of the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA), Alex Akpa, for allegedly defrauding the federal government of N400 million. In a statement signed by the  anti-graft agency 's spokesperson, Azuka Ogugua on Wednesday, the agency said it is also investigating the official for abuse of office. According to the report, Mr Akpa, who is a professor of microbiology, was arrested by operatives of the commission to answer questions on how the said amount was misappropriated under his watch. The ICPC also said investigations revealed that the money, which the acting DG had claimed to be an intervention fund for the biotechnology agency, was diverted into private pockets. Lai Mohammed, Nigeria’s Minister of Information, has told United Kingdom lawmakers to desist from imposing sanctions on Nigerian Government officials, who violated rights of citizens during the peaceful #EndSARS protests. Members of the UK Parliament had on Monday reached a unanimous decision to consider sanctions against Nigerian Government officials, who disrupted peaceful protests across the country as well as those involved in the attack and shooting of peaceful protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate, Lagos, on October 20. Sanwo-Olu to Unveil 8,230 Bed-Space Hostel in LASU

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu is set to unveil an 8,230 capacity bed-space hostel at the Lagos State University, simply known as LASU during the Investiture of Chancellor, Award of Directorate Degrees, Conferment of Honorary Doctorates and Distinguished Professor on Thursday, Dec 17th, as part of activities marking the 24th convocation ceremony of the institution. Announcing the programme schedule for the event, LASU Coordinator, Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations, Mr Ademola Adekoya said that the convocation ceremonies will run from Convocation Ceremonies Thursday, Dec. 10th to Friday, Dec. 18th. Adekoya also noted that convocation, a hybrid programme, to hold both physically and virtually will allow only invited graduands and guests at the physical event with others joining virtually via shared links to be provided by the university. The president of the Academic staff union of Nigeria Universities (ASUU) Prof. Abiodun Ogunyemi has declared that the Union doesn't has a Twitter handle, describing guise accounts as impersonators. The Academic union president released this statement during a virtual interview with Arise News at The morning show program.  During the interview Prof. Abiodun Ogunyemi when asked about the inconsistency in it negotiations between the Federal government about how the body via it supposed Twitter handle advised Lecturers and members of its Union to not depend on only their educational job, advising it's member look into other source of income... The Cable News Network simply known as CNN has released a detailed visual documentary which proves allegations against the Nigerian army for killing peaceful #EndSARS protesters at Lekki Toll Gate on the 20th of October 2020. The event which occurred on October 20 and claimed the lives of young Nigerians has been denied by the Nigeria Army head authorities.  The army denied shooting at protesters while Lagos State Governor, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu said only two protesters were killed, a statement which is believed to be false by reputable numbers of people. NYSC: FG Enrols Corp Members Into Compulsory Health Scheme

The Federal Government has approved the enrolment of members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the National Health Insurance Scheme. This was revealed today 9th November in a statement released by the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim The Brigadier general started his statement by saluting and expressing gratitude towards the security agencies and other stakeholders for their support Furthermore, he said the scheme has concluded arrangement with the  National Health Insurance Scheme  ( NHIS)  for the enrolment of corps members into the NHIS in line with a presidential directive.  He then concluded his statement saying that they have also expended huge resources on critical health needs of corps members, including footing of medical bills

WAEC Reveals: Over N1.5bn was used to conduct the 2020 WASSCE

It's been a week since the west African Examination Council WAEC released the result of candidates that participated in the 2020 West Africa Senior school certificate examination WASSCE.  The 2021 WASSCE registration is ongoing and surely lot of funds are needed to successfully conduct this exam. In this regards, The Head of WAEC National Office in Nigeria, Areghan Patrick has revealed that over N1.5 billion was used to conduct the 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE)  And so urges the government that it would need more funds to conduct the 2021 WASSCE as the registration fees collected from candidates aren't enough to fully fund their budget. This was disclosed in Abuja at the 2021 budget defence before the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Services. Renowned Nigerian poet, Prof. John Pepper Clark has died at the age of 85.   The emeritus and highly respected professor of Literature who was born on the 9th April, 1935  in Kiagbodo, Nigeria  died today, October 13, 2020. JP Clark reportedly joined his ancestors on Tuesday morning in an undisclosed hospital in Lagos where he had been receiving treatment. His death was announced in a statement signed by Prof. C. C.
