ASUU: FG plans to explore other options if strike persist

Following the persistency in disagreement between the Academic staff Union of universities (ASUU) and the federal government of Nigeria, The minister of labor and employment, Chris Nguge has revealed that the FG will have to explore other options within the labor law should the disagreement between between both party persist. 

The minister disclosed that the federal government has met six, out of ASUU's nine demands but both parties still haven't come to an agreement.

The Members of the academic staff union of university (ASUU) and representatives of the federal government are expected to meet again this week to resolve the lingering crisis.

British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua showed how much of a Yoruba boy he is when he met with President Muhammadu Buhari earlier on Saturday, January 18. The heavyweight world boxing champion was hosted by Buhari in London, UK, where the Nigerian president is presently visiting for government business. After shaking hands with the president, Joshua - who recently defeated Andy Ruiz to reclaim his belts - went down flat as a sign of respect. His action elicited laughter from all the government officials present at the meeting. The champ also made sure to present his belt to the president, who was more than elated to receive him. Strike: Students beg ASUU to call off 8month old Strike

Some university students on Thursday appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities to consider their future and resume to work in their various institutions. Some of the students, who spoke with the  News Agency of Nigeria  in Enugu, expressed worries and lamented as they appealed for the suspension of the prolonged strike. The students said they were tired and frustrated due to the time wasted without any academic achievement. They said the strike would make them remain in the university more than it was necessary. ASUU has been on strike since March 2020 over demands for more funding for public universities and renegotiation of the 2009 FG/ASUU agreement. Others are outstanding earned academic allowances, the proliferation of universities by state governments, and the constitution of Visitation Panels to Federal Universities.
